MY APPROACH

The way I see it, the creative process in art therapy is in itself healing, freeing, relaxing and satisfying. It is a powerful tool for self-expression and inner examination . The subject(s) matter in your life can be explored through the creative process, and can open a safe channel into your inner world. You may uncover repressed feelings through your artwork, revealing deeper meanings and expanding personal understanding of yourself.
You don't have to have any art experience to use this form of therapy, and it doesn't matter how your end product turns out. It is about being able to openly express yourself.
I will encourage you to try out different types of art materials and enjoy the process of being creative.
While some clients may find that a quiet, introspective session where they may concentrate on making art or connecting with their inner selves is more beneficial, some may find it more helpful to express their ideas and feelings verbally with their therapist. And sometimes, it may change from one session to another (with the same client).
If you choose to do artwork, I will ask you to describe it and consider possible symbolic connotations it may have to explore your thoughts.
Whatever the circumstance, as a skilled therapist I will be able to assist, mentor and personalize
the needs of the unique client in a flexible and creative way, to promote healing and growth.

Through the sessions, I will often try to engage and concentrate on the present moment whether it's the creating experience, or a burning matter you came in with.
I offer safe, non judgmental environment, with unconditional positive regard, holding and active listening as key elements.
I aim for the client through our engagement to grow, develop a better self-esteem, confidence, and regulate emotions. Sometimes through reflections of your art work, we will be able to address unconscious thoughts, defensive mechanisms, and the core reasons of current emotions, to better understand the present.
